Dr Tarin ONG
Dr Tarin Ong is Lecturer, Learning Support with Murdoch University (MU), Singapore Office. She also lectures in the Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) programme. Tarin has a Doctorate in Education from the Nanyang Technological University- National Institute of Education and Master of Counselling from Monash University. She is a registered Clinical Counsellor and Psychotherapist.
In her role at MU, she provides undergraduate and postgraduate students with various initiatives that span academic skills, learning strategies, research and integrity, personal effectiveness, and well-being. She conducts training for new and current affiliate lecturers on learning and teaching standards, student support services, assessments, exams and feedback, technology-enabled learning strategies, use of the learning management system, and evaluation of learning and teaching. She also ensures MU’s core value of academic integrity in education and research is upheld by overseeing the investigation of academic misconduct and dishonesty.
Before joining MU, she worked as Senior Principal Counsellor in a private educational institute where she was responsible for psychological intervention, and disability and diversity services. She has worked for several tertiary institutions educating students on emotional wellness, career preparation, and supporting them in developing their career aspirations. She has also held a senior position in a welfare organization responsible for preparing people with disabilities for employment through employer-relations building, training, counselling, accessibility audits and employer education.
Her research interests include inclusive education, academic accommodation, nutritional psychology, psychosis, suicide, self-harm, and low-income bi-national families.
