Greening the Economy and Promoting Peace? The Conflict Implications of Climate Change and Climate Change Mitigation
Scholars and policymakers are highly concerned about the security implications of climate change, including increased risks of armed conflicts.
Consequentially, a greening of the economy is supposed to make the world not only more sustainable, but also more peaceful.
The seminar puts this proposition under critical scrutiny.
In a first step, it asks whether and when climate change actually shapes conflict risks, with a particular focus on Asia and the Pacific. Afterwards, I discuss the conflict implications of climate change mitigation measures. The seminar concludes with a brief reflection on the interlinkages between climate change, the green economy, and peace.
